How to Apply Makeup on Hooded Eyes

Jul 15, 2009 05:46 PM

Do you have hooded eyes? If the skin above your eyelids covers most of your lids when your eyes are open, then you have something called hooded eyes. It can be hard to apply makeup to eyes like these, but this will give you an idea of how to do so. These tips will make your eyes look more 'open'.

Take a light "highlight" eyeshadow, and brush it across your brow bone and the corner of your eyes, along the lash line.

Take an eyeshadow a couple of shades darker than your original shade and sweep it across the entire of your lids, including the hooded areas.

Taking a darker shade again, or a "counter" shade, brush this along the outer corners of your eyes, moving in an upwards direction.

Apply a thin layer of eyeliner to your top lids, right on the lash line, and to your bottom lids as well.

Apply two layer of dark mascara to both top and bottom lashes.

Tips

  • When trying to do something more up-to-date, such as "cat eye" makeup, "Cat eyes are pretty simple to do, no matter what your eye shape. It's just all about the "wing" placement. If you have hooded eyes you should only put the eyeliner on your last bit of eyelid and then wing it out. Don't line your whole upper lid because then you'll be making your eyes appear much smaller. Also, when you wing it out for the cat eye, go a little farther than normal. The length of the wing will balance out the smallness of your eye, making it look bigger.

Things You'll Need

  • Three shades of eyeshadow - a light, a medium and a dark
  • Some eyeliner
  • Some mascara
